Local pest pressure

What El Mirage homes are up against

El Mirage is small and tightly built, with the Agua Fria River running along its eastern edge. Most homes are on modest lots with block walls on every side, and many neighborhoods went up in the same building wave. That means similar walls, similar landscaping, and pests that move easily from one yard to the next. The dry riverbed and its brush give scorpions, rodents, and spiders a natural corridor right alongside the city.

Tight lots also mean garages, side yards, and pool equipment are close to living space, which is where black widows like to settle. We work El Mirage alongside Surprise and Sun City West, and Bryce handles both the quote and the treatment himself. Text a photo of what you’re seeing and he can often tell you what it is before he arrives.

Common in El Mirage

The pests we see most in El Mirage

Scorpions from the riverbed

The Agua Fria’s dry wash and brush are natural habitat for bark scorpions. Homes on the east side of El Mirage, closest to the river, often see the most activity along walls and garages.

Black widows in tight side yards

Block walls, meter boxes, pool equipment, and cluttered garages are classic black widow spots. On compact lots, those spots are only a few feet from doors and windows.

Rodents moving yard to yard

Shared block walls and similar landscaping let roof rats and mice travel easily between neighboring yards. Fruit trees, pet food, and stored items in garages keep them coming back.

Questions

What El Mirage homeowners ask

Don’t see your question? Call or text (623) 363-3124 and you’ll get Bryce, not a call center.

I live near the Agua Fria. Why so many scorpions?

The dry riverbed and the brush along it are natural bark scorpion habitat, so homes nearby are close to the source. A consistent perimeter barrier, sealed door and garage gaps, and treatment of hiding spots along walls keep them out of the house.

How do I know if it’s a black widow?

Black widows are glossy black with a red hourglass on the underside. They build messy webs in low, sheltered spots like meter boxes, pool equipment, and garage corners. Don’t reach in barehanded. Bites can be medically significant: call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222, or 911 for a severe reaction.

My neighbors have rats. Will I get them too?

On compact lots with shared block walls, it’s common for rats to move between yards. Sealing your own attic vents, roof gaps, and garage entries is the best defense, and we can trap any that are already on your property.

There’s a bee colony in my meter box. What should I do?

Keep kids and pets away, and don’t spray, plug, or open the box. On a compact lot, a meter box can sit just a few steps from the driveway or front walk, so give it a wide berth and call us. Africanized honey bees are widespread in southern Arizona, so any colony should be handled by a professional.
